Responsibility
This
Pioneer Trek Youth Conference will be held in a wilderness setting. We will be “roughing it.” The Stake will provide food, restroom
facilities at the campsites, a safe drinking water supply, and learning
activities. Each participant in this
conference must act in accordance with Church standards at all times and aid
other members of the conference in behaving in accordance with Church
standards. There are inherent risks
involved in all outdoor activities including this Stake Pioneer Trek Youth
Conference, which are beyond the control of the Trek staff and Stake
leaders. Proper preparation reduces
these risks and is the responsibility of all participants. These considerations should include proper
sleeping equipment, poncho or rain coat, sunscreen, insect repellant and other
items listed on the personal equipment list.
All participants must act in such a way as to not endanger themselves or
others, and should show charitable consideration to all other participants and
leaders in the Trek.
Each
participant should condition themselves physically for this experience. An example of adequate conditioning would be
to complete a minimum requirement of walking/running four (4) miles on level
ground in 60 minutes or less without undue stress.
The
trek will be conducted in Bradfordsville on both member’s and non-member’s land. Each participant must follow applicable “No
Trace Camping” protocols to maintain the wilderness nature of the
property. There will be no littering of
any kind while on the trail. Trash
disposal will be available at the campsites each evening.

Trek 2013 Medical Release Form
This form must be completed and singed by a medical doctor
for participants who answered “yes” to any of the conditions listed on the
Medical History portion of the Registration Form. They will not be allowed to participate if
this form is not submitted. The examination
must be current within three months of the participation event (July 18-20,
2013).

Dear Doctor: The
above named person will participate in a Pioneer Youth Conference this
summer. Persons suffering from any of
the conditions listed below must obtain a physician’s clearance before
participating in this program. The
participants will be in a wilderness setting for three days (emergency access
only during daytime). They will have
ample food and water. On the first day
they will pull a handcart approximately 6-8 miles on varying terrain; the second
day a handcart pull for approximately 5 miles on varying terrain. On day three they will engage in non-exerting
outdoor activities. Participants will
prepare most meals and camp out at night.
Please consider the following conditions in your decision as well as
other medical problems that may be aggravated by or interfere with the below
mentioned conditions:

activities, handcart pull and hiking where medical facilities are limited.
Individuals will be allowed to take medications for chronic
conditions if the medication is prescribed or accompanied by a doctor’s
approval.

Louisville KY Stake Trek 2013
Welcome!
Welcome! The Louisville Stake Trek 2013 will be held on July 18-20 2013 in Bradfordsville, Kentucky!
We are so excited about the trek and we wanted to create this blog as a place for you to come and get information and ask questions. The time to start preparing for the trek is now!
Physical Preparation:
The trek will be strenuous. It will likely be very hot as well. You will want to make sure that you are in good physical condition. The start of a new year is a perfect time to start conditioning your body. Start walking now and increase your distance regularly. Here is a suggested routine:
Spiritual Preparation:
We would also like you to start learning about any pioneer ancestors that you have so that you can share them with your trek family. If you don't have pioneer ancestors, research another pioneer or family member of your choosing. Pray daily and read your scriptures daily so that your spirit will be prepared as well. Other possibilities:
Get your shoes ready
Wearing the wrong shoes on the trek will rub you wrong and cause pain and blisters. Remember, your toes need room to expand, because your feet will swell a full shoe size as you walk on the trek. Running shoes are the best for trekkers. Try to do a couple of walks with your trekking shoes and a light backpack before the trek. While walking, when you feel hot spots forming stop and go home. Rub your feet with rubbing alcohol and let them dry out. This should allow you to form calluses that can protect you on the trek.

- 5 gallon bucket and lid
- 1 bedroll
- 1 rain poncho
- Enough plastic (tarp) to serve as a ground cover and shelter
- 1 pair of old running shoes
- 4 pairs of sturdy socks
- 2 extra sets of underclothing
- 2 bandanas
- 1 metal pie plate, 1 large spoon and 1 tin cup
- 1 water bottle with a close able lid, you may want to hang this on a belt or carry with you
- 1 small hand towel, comb or brush
- 1 toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Small first aid kit
- Old set of scriptures
- Pen/pencil
- 2 heavy duty garbage bags
- Chapstick, sunblock, insect repellent
- Deodorant
- Pair of garden gloves or heavy work gloves
- Disposable camera
- Pocket knife
Men Should Bring:
· 2 pairs of khaki/wool/canvas pants
· 2 long sleeved shirts
· 1 western style hat (no baseball/army hats allowed)
· 1 pair of suspenders
Women Should Bring:
· 2 mid-calf, long sleeved dresses or 2 long sleeved shirts & mid-calf length skirts
· 1 bonnet
· 2 pairs of knee length bloomers (can be made from old pajamas bottoms/hospital pants)
· 1 apron
· Feminine hygiene supplies
Do Not Bring: shirts without sleeves or that show the midriff, shorts above the knee, ipods/mp3 players, cell phones, laptops, cd/dvd players, any food/snacks
