Calling all members of our stake!!! We are in need of a few things to borrow for this year's pioneer handcart trek. Trek is July 18-20. We could return these items after that.
We are in need of:
16 - 12 inch Dutch ovens with lids
8 charcoal chimney's
8 Dutch oven lid lifters
8 Dutch oven lid resters
12 large tarps
8 - 5 gallon water coolers
any pioneer clothing that we could borrow
If you have any of these things and would be willing to share, please contact Pam Harp (502) 266-5988. If you could announce this in your units, I would appreciate spreading the needs. I know that we can all pull together on this and make it a wonderful experience for all the youth.

For the Mas and Pas,
This video features Mark McKinney from the Louisville Stake as he prepares his Mas and Pas for cooking on the trek. The food chairman, Shaun Tullis, from Crestwood Stake has provided this video for your use. Shaun is doing the voice-overs for the video.
The links to part 1 and part 2 are above. Please direct any cooking questions to Mark McKinney.
Thank you so much for your willingness to serve the youth in this capacity!

Pictures from trek 2009
Just in case you need a little inspiration, these youth made it look so easy. They worked hard, but they smiled and lived to tell the tales.
All loaded up and ready to go trekking!
A great place for a much needed break.

Trek bucket ideas
In preparation of Trek I am including ideas for 5 gallon buckets. Everyone will need a bucket with a lid. These buckets will hold each person's supplies. The handcarts are designed to hold this size so that pulling the weight will be evenly distributed.
I suggest that each lid be covered with some padding. The padding could be newspapers. The reason I suggest padding the top is that these buckets will serve as camp chairs also. The lid has a significant lip that will be uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time.
There are some sources for free buckets. If you check with your local grocery bakeries. Sometimes they will give you their used frosting buckets. In the past I have been successful at Sam's club. I suggest that you not wait until July to look for free buckets. You have to catch them at the right time.. Make sure to ask for the lid and make sure the lid fits the bucket. Sometimes they don't always match them. I did have to clean out the buckets but that little bit of work was worth the bucket.
If you do not find any free buckets, you can purchase them. I have seen them at Home Depot and Lowe's. The cost for a bucket and lid was less than $3.00.
Here is Sis. Studer's bucket all packed with the packing list items. Each bucket needs to hold each person's supplies.
If you have any questions about buckets, contact me.Hope this gets you thinking about Trek.
