Trek bucket ideas

In preparation of Trek I am including ideas for  5 gallon buckets.  Everyone will need a bucket with a lid.  These buckets will hold each person's supplies.  The handcarts are designed to hold this size so that pulling the weight will be evenly distributed.

I suggest that each lid be covered with some padding. The padding could be newspapers.  The reason I suggest padding the top is that these buckets will serve as camp chairs also.  The lid has a significant lip that will be uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time.

There are some sources for free buckets.  If you check with your local grocery bakeries.  Sometimes they will give you their used frosting buckets.  In the past I have been successful at Sam's club. I suggest that you not wait until July to look for free buckets.  You have to catch them at the right time..  Make sure to ask for the lid and make sure the lid fits the bucket.  Sometimes they don't always match them. I did have to clean out the buckets but that little bit of work was worth the bucket.

If you do not find any free buckets, you can purchase them.  I have seen them at Home Depot and Lowe's.  The cost for a  bucket and lid was less than $3.00.

Sis. Studer prepared this bucket.  Her bucket was a recycled bucket.  It previously held hydraulic fluid.  So she spruced it up after she cleaned it out.  Her real purpose was to cover up the warnings on the side of the bucket.  She used duct tape to cover the lid after she padded it.  She also duct taped the sides. You do NOT have to "cutesy" your bucket. The duct tape idea for padding the lid works perfectly.
Here is Sis. Studer's bucket all packed with the packing list items.  Each bucket needs to hold each person's supplies.

If you have any questions about buckets, contact me.Hope this gets you thinking about Trek.
